Crews Begin Assessing Flood Damage in Cumberland Co.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY -- As the threat of additional flooding diminishes, emergency crews in Cumberland County are transitioning from a response to a recovery mode.

This weekend and into next week assessment teams will be out to fully identify the impact of Thursday's flooding.

The first priority is to survey the area affected by flooding, then the focus will be centered on homes and buildings with damage.

A partial breach of the dam at Carvers Creek State Park forced dozens of people in Spring Lake to evacuate.

Many stayed in the Spring Lake Recreation Center Thursday night.

"Family is important. As long as my family is in one spot, that’s all that matters. I wasn’t worried about the material things because we can always get that back?," said Gary Jones, a Spring Lake resident.

County officials ask people to call 910-677-5509 to report any damage to their property from the flooding
